127 Hours

Image
I'm making a brief review of the movie 127 hours - I know, I know it's a movie again . 127 hours is directed by Danny Boyle, the director of Slumdog Millionaire! - yes he is, and guessing or I dunno if this movie will be out in the cinemas soon here in Philippines, but you can have a copy of the movie if you have time to download it.   This is one of the amazing, terrifying, horrible, awful? - overstatement lang - hehe. I dunno actually I wasn't expecting that this movie is great. So funny I was moved to tears, I mean sobbing. I'm so emotional lang - haha! This movie will move you as in literally move you at your seat or worse got fainted whatsoever.  What else? hmmmm..I got easily affected to being "left alone" scenes, then something worst happened and it's a matter of life and death situations - I hate it, honestly.  This is just like the Cast Away movie, but terms of survival factor, the Cast Away is way more better than this one. I was blo

Love is a Fallacy

Image
Love is a Fallacy is a Max Shulman's short story about a college guy who educates her love interest Polly to become a favorable wife in the future. I really really like this story so I wanna share it. Love is a Fallacy by Max Shulman   Cool was I and logical. Keen, calculating, perspicacious, acute and astute—I was all of these. My brain was as powerful as a dynamo, precise as a chemist’s scales, as penetrating as a scalpel. And—think of it!—I only eighteen. It is not often that one so young has such a giant intellect. Take, for example, Petey Bellows, my roommate at the university. Same age, same background, but dumb as an ox. A nice enough fellow, you understand, but nothing upstairs. Emotional type. Unstable. Impressionable. Worst of all, a faddist. Fads, I submit, are the very negation of reason. To be swept up in every new craze that comes along, to surrender oneself to idiocy just because everybody else is doing it—this, to me, is the acme of mindlessness. N

My Fair Lady

Image
Yay! I can't believe I'm making a post about the movie My Fair Lady - hehe. I went to the office for the film showing - yes it's back! Honestly, this is my first time to watched a classical movie cause I'm not really a fan of ancient ones - hehe.  Anyway, My Fair Lady stars Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison is a story about Eliza Doolittle (Hepburn) a young flower seller girl with horrible English accent, on the other hand Henry Higgins (Harisson) is a professor in phonetics, let's just say he's an expert on that field. Eliza wants Henry to teach her speech lessons - since she has a dream to work on a flower shop but her accent is not suitable for such a position.   Henry is somehow reluctant to the idea but decided to give Eliza a chance with the help of Colonel Pickering. Eliza started her speech training for almost six months - Higgins is one harsh professor, I can't imagine speaking with marbles on my mouth. wheew! I love this phrase she kee

How assertive are you?

Image
Do you have hard times saying no to others request? Is it difficult to express your feelings directly?  Honestly, I do feel it sometimes; I have hard times expressing clearly my thoughts, what I want or what I need. I know it’s not good to be so submissive, your feelings are ignored and others took advantage of you. I have hard times also being assertive or just being too pushy about my own ideas and opinions cause I don’t want to hurt others’ feelings.   Is being so non-assertive erroneous? I asked myself. Maybe I should be on the 50/50 part, well it answers my question. I took the How assertive are you test in psychology.com. Below is the result: Being non-assertive is not that really bad though, it was like you're just being nice - haha! But I realized that you don't have to go on pretending that everything is okay when it's not. Being assertive is just being honest in a such a way that you have no intentions to hurt others' feelings. If you're c

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

Image
Welcome To A World Where Anything Is Possible.  It’s another moving picture from the brilliant director Hayao Miyazaki. Yes, I adore all his animated films especially Howl’s Moving Castle .  I watched this yesterday; the animated movie is about a goldfish princess who wants to be human. The little goldfish princess fell in love to Sosuke. Sosuke is a 5 year old boy lives in an ocean cliff with his mother. One day, he went to the shore and founds a goldfish trapped in a bottle. He rescues the goldfish and names her Ponyo. Ponyo on the other hand is the daughter of a wizard and sea goddess.   Below are some snapshots: Ponyo and Sosuke Ponyo's Mother and Father Ponyo's mother - a sea goddess According to Hayao Miyazaki the plot is inspired by the story "The Little Mermaid"  by Hans Christian Andersen. - The characters are so adorable, the images are very artistic - it was amazing - the scenery in the small village is so pretty. How Do I Love Thee?

How Do I Love Thee? Elizabeth Barrett Browning How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.  I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of everyday's Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.  I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;  I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.  I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,  I shall but love thee better after death. ~ like this poem. How do I love thee :/

The first: Paper Day

It's a special day tomorrow but I dunno how to celebrate it. I never would have thought that the day would come. I would like to call it Paper Day since it's the first - hehe. Hmm.. 1st anniversary without HIM. I guess I have to get used to it. But I appreciate that he's making effort, making sure he never forgets. Isn't it sweet? hmm.. I missed him.  I don't want to be sad thinking that it's our paper day and we're not able to celebrate the special day. I keep on thinking, what if he's here - what would be his gift or what would be my gift to him? How do we celebrate our Paper Day together? Is it a dinner? or just ordinary day talking and laughing?  Well, I should stop thinking about it.. Off to bed now.  Oops, wait, Thank You dear God for everything today. Your Grace is Enough! Happy Fiesta to Senior Sto Niño - pit Senyor!

Black Swan

Image
Black Swan is a story about Nina who is very obsessed on her profession being a ballerina. She’s working hard to get the role of the Swan Queen from the story Swan Lake. The story of Swan Lake and the Black Swan has similarities. It’s a conflict between good against evil, the innocence of Nina (Portman) and her dark side. This thrill-drama movie is amazing in every aspect.   I love Natalie’s performance, she acts like an innocent child, a baby girl to her mom who is exact opposite to Lily (Mila Kunis), who’s very spontaneous and Nina’s rival.  When Nina chooses to be the Swan Queen, she plays both the character of the White and Black Swan. Her character as a White Swan does not troubled her, the problem is that her character as the Black Swan.  She’s seeking perfection, she wanted to be perfect. Okay I want to quote this one – it’s from the movie – “ Perfection is not just about control. It's also about letting go.”  She needs to let herself go but came to the po

Ghajini is an action-thriller movie with a sweet but tragic romantic feature. Inspired by Christopher’s Nolan film Memento – I was so right, I knew it from the start it was just like the movie Memento, but I didn’t have the chance to watch Nolan’s Memento – I was just curious about Nolan that time and browsing to his IMDB profile when I saw the movie and I just read the plot.  The plot is just amazing! Though, I planned to download the movie but then Ghajini came earlier on my list – that was out of the blue.  Back to the story – Aamir as Sanjay is a very wealthy man; he is the chairman of a mobile phone company – Air voice. He suffers amnesia – short te

Message in a Bottle

Image
A story of love lost and found. This is the 2nd book I bought from the author Nicholas Sparks, but I haven't read it yet.  I was busy reading The Lucky One – still from N.S.   The plot: Thrown to the waves, and to fate, a bottle could have ended up anywhere. Instead, it is found just three weeks after it begins its journey. Theresa Osborne, divorced and the mother of a twelve-year-old son, picks it up during a seaside vacation from her job as a   Boston   newspaper columnist. Inside is a letter that opens with: My Dearest Catherine, I miss you my darling, as I always do, but today is particularly hard because the ocean has been singing to me, and the song is that of our life together... For "Garrett," the man who signs the letter, the message is the only way he knows to express his undying love for a woman he has lost. For Theresa, wary of romance since her husband shattered her trust, the message raises questions that intrigue her. Who are Garrett and Ca

The Price is Right

Image
Hello there! This is my first post this year!! – A round and round of applause to me - hehe.  I’ve been busy lately. My mind is pretty occupied with work and personal issues. Anyways, ABS-CBN has a new game show hosted by The Queen of Talk Ms. Kris Aquino.  The Price is Right is a television game show in US. (very popular game show) The contestants will compete to win cash and prizes by guessing the price of merchandise.  Of  course if you’re lucky enough to guess the price you will win the prize.  Moreover, if that person guesses the closest value of the merchandise without going over to the actual value, that person wins the prize and will proceed on the game.  The game show gives away brand new car, and millions of pesos. The Price is Right Philippine version is coming soon, and may occupy the lunch time slot since Pilipinas Win na Win was cancelled.  I guess panlaban ito sa Willing Willie in TV5, which is getting popular and gradually mounting the ratings on its time
