Nipa Hut

Howdy! yay after I received a text message from a college friend I was thinking that I should post this one. I was laughing after reading the message. I read it again and I started to sing the english version of Bahay Kubo (Nipa Hut).  Bahay Kubo was like the first tagalog nursery rhyme I remember singing when I was still a kid with matching hand formation/steps lol. I always love singing nursery rhymes, I love singing the watermelon song, and bahay kubo with my nephew, I felt like a kid again, but I think everyone is a kid at heart. So below is the Tagalog lyrics of the song.

Bahay Kubo

Bahay kubo, kahit munti
Ang halaman doon, ay sari sari
Sinkamas at talong, sigarilyas at mani
Sitaw, bataw, patani.

Kundol, patola, upo't kalabasa
At saka mayroon pang labanos, mustasa,
Sibuyas, kamatis, bawang at luya
Sa paligid-ligid ay puno ng linga

and this is the English version

NIPA HUT

Nipa hut*, even though it is small
The plants it houses are varied
Turnip and eggplant, winged bean and peanut
String bean, hyacinth bean, lima bean.

Wax gourd, luffa**, white squash and pumpkin,
And there is also radish, mustard,
Onion, tomato, garlic, and ginger
And all around are sesame seeds.

Now I know the english name of veggies mentioned in the Tagalog version of Bahay Kubo. It was really fun plus I gained something.  Now here's a video of a 3yr old girl singing Bahay Kubo, I'm not sure if this cute girl is a Fil-Am but she has a very cute version of the song, she sings it in Tagalog version of course :P
